In 2011, the transformation of Historic Newtown School by the City of Johns Creek is now complete and the beautifully renovated facility is once again brimming with activity as Park Place at Newtown Park, an adult activity center. This simple, but charming 1929 school structure has a new lease on life and it appears that it will once again play a prominent role in local community life, this time though, for the 62 years and older set. Check out the Projects link for more information.

Newly renovated Park Place
The new Dream Dog Park which should be any dog’s ideal play spot, opened in late spring. Thanks to Johns Creek resident, Pat McNealy, who won a $500,000 contest from Beneful® and to the City of Johns Creek for selecting Newtown as the location, the new dog park has experienced an overwhelming number of canine visitors accompanied by their human companions every day since it opened. Visit the dog park webpage.

Now in its second year of operation, the Johns Creek Community Garden Association has had two very successful years renting small raised garden plots at their first community garden in Newtown Park. Each year, garden spots are available for a one year rental fee. The demand for the plots exceeds what’s available to rent, so a lottery system is used. For more information about the Newtown Park garden and the Johns Creek Community Garden, go to www.leadershipjohnscreek.com or Newtown Park Community Garden.

Rent a plot, grow your own vegetables or flowers!
During summer months, a Farmer’s Market, pops up every Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. until Sept. 10, in the parking lot closest to Old Alabama Road.
The Newtown Community Clubhouse which reopened after major renovations in 2009 is owned and operated by the City of Johns Creek and it can be rented through the Johns Creek Department of Recreation and Parks’ facility rentals.
